Poloforo
Juarez, Mexico
Full House in Juarez
Cheer
. . . & Then Fling Beer in Main Event
A
capacity crowd at the Poloforo Juan Gabriel Friday
night in Juarez, Mexico witnessed the punching power
of Mexico's top featherweight, David "Tacubayo"
Murillo. From the opening bell Murillo attacked
the overmatched American Forbes Davis, with
rights and lefts to both the head and body and
half-way through the round caught Davis with a
wicked left hook to his right side. Writhing in
pain, the game Davis attempted to rise but was
counted out by referee Rocky Burke. The
pro-Murillo crowd then showered the ring and press
row with a dousing of Carta Blanca that would be
enough to drown any Malibu brush fire. On the
Undercards: Hot Mexican flyweight prospect Gerson
"Nene" Guerrero looked sluggish and
uninspired, having to chase Evarsito "Su
Majestad" Primero for ten rounds. The
unanimous decision by Guerrero did little to
stimulate interest in a bout with flyweight champ Eric
Morel. Baby-faced "Bebe" Julian
Rodriquez out-punched and out-boxed Saul
"El Guapo" Briseno over ten rounds in
a bantamweight special attraction. In probably the
best fight of the night, local bantamweight favorite
Ruben "finito" Lopez loses to Juan
"Maromerito" Mendez in a spectacular
eight round affair. After the decision was announced
"Finito" took the microphone from the
announcer and called for an immediate re-match, then
"Maromerito" yelled back "sin guantes"
(without gloves). Look out for this one in the
coming months. In another scheduled eight round
bout, Rodrigo "Carita" Facio stops Alejandro
"Oaxaca" Avendano at the end of round
number five. This was a fairly even fight until
"Carita" catches "Oaxaca" on the
inside with a right cross at the bell, "Oaxaca"
gamely gets to his feet at the count of eight, but
referee stops contest. Alejandro "Apachito"
Moreno TKO's Jose Rodriquez in the third
round of a scheduled six round bout. The next fight
card, on March 2nd, has Hometown hero Quirino
Garcia versus former champion and conqueror of Julio
Cesar Chavez, Frankie Randall in the main
event. Also, tentatively on the card is El Paso
heavyweight sensation David "El Nino"
Rodriquez who will be fighting for the first
time since hand surgery last year.
