Joe's co-trainers at the PAL want to thank everyone for their support and prayers. If he continues to improve, it's likely that Joe will be able to continue his recovery at home.

Former fighter passes away
NewMexicoBoxing is sad to announce the death of former fighter
Henry Gabaldon, who passed away early Wednesday morning. Henry was a former Golden Glover in the '40s.
Gabaldon made his pro debut on May 13, 1946, taking former amateur star Mario Hernandez to a four-round draw—though most thought Gabaldon won that fight. He fought two more times as a pro, winning once and losing a rematch to Hernandez, to even out his record to 1-1-1. Years later, Gabaldon returned to the game as a commissioner on the precursor to the New Mexico Athletic Commission—the Albuquerque Boxing Advisory Board—in 1980.

Long-awaited showdown not even close: Holly Holm stands alone, proves pound-for-pound superiority with dominating win over Mary Jo Sanders; Moreno controls Olszewski; There are hometown decisions, and there are
Holmtown decisions. Last night’s main event at Isleta Casino & Resort, south of Albuquerque, N.M., was of the latter variety; and, a sort Duke City fans have gotten used to seeing since Christy Martin came to town, in 2005, for a boxing lesson. Proving wrong the experts (again), New Mexico’s top female draw, Holly Holm—certainly women’s boxing’s top pound-for-pound fighter between 140 and 154, if not in all divisions—made her win over formerly undefeated Mary Jo Sanders, of Auburn Hills, Mich., look easy.

Ali camp expresses interest in Holm-Sanders
The camp of
Laila Ali has expressed interest in Ali possibly fighting the
winner of the
Holly Holm-Mary Jo Sanders fight on Friday, sometime next year. Stay tuned . . . .
Holm, Sanders speak out!
Holly Holm (21-1-2, 6 KOs), of Albuquerque, and Detroit’s
Mary Jo Sanders (25-0, 8 KOs), participated today in a national teleconference. On Friday, the two will square off in a battle of pound-for-pound supremacy, at Isleta Casino & Resort.
------
Is training the same for this fight, as any other?
Sanders: “This is for pound-for-pound supremacy. It’s
not the same. This has put me at a totally different level. I’ve been sparring 30-40 rounds a week, with southpaw Damien Fuller. I’ve taken training the nth degree, and then some. This is the big one.”
------
Holm: “I’ve done things a little different, but as far as overtraining, I’ve been careful not to overtrain. I train at a high pace already. It’s been more intense, but I haven’t been adding workouts. … I know this is the biggest fight of my career.”
------
Comments from the trainers
Jimmy Mallo, Sanders’ trainer: “Holly is a very good fighter … but Mary Jo is a great fighter. They know they’re in deep water, because Mary Jo is the whole package. She’s an adaptable fighter. She’s in a different league. I’ll bet [Mike Winkeljohn] right now--$5,000 on a gentleman’s bet. That’s how sure I am. I’m not bragging—I can back it up. Holly has no chance of winning this fight.”
------
Mike Winkeljohn, Holms’ trainer: “If could find a line on this fight somewhere, I’d put a whole bunch of money on Holly.”
The experts predict Holm vs. Sanders
"Finally" is all set to go Friday June 13 at the Isleta Casino in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The IFBA light middleweight title bout between Holly Holm and Mary Jo Sanders has been much discussed and everyone has opinions and comments to spare. Experts, fighters, and writers and boxing industry professionals offered their predictions and comments on the main event for all to read and further discuss . ..
