Crespin's Boxing will be hosting the U.S. Men's New Mexico State Tournament this year, from April 17 to 19, at Crespin's Boxing Gym, 900 West Valencia Street in Las Vegas, N.M. Weigh-ins on the 17th-19 are at 8 a.m. to 11; match-ups right after; physicals on the 17th and 18th will be at 4 p.m. First bout on Friday and Saturday (17-18) will be at 6 p.m. For more info, contact Carlos Crespin @ 505-429-4068. For any necessary fights on Sunday, the 19th, weigh-ins will be at 7 a.m., physicals at 11 and first bout at noon. Admission will be $12 for adults, $8 for students and children under 5 get in free.

GOMEZ vs. GARCIA is on for 4.25!
The long-awaited showdown between Durango's Elco "The Animal" Garcia (20-7) and Bloomfield's Joe "Ironman" Gomez (16-1-1) is on! In the first Sky Ute Casino card of the year - and first at their newly-built venue - Gomez and Garcia will go ten rounds at 155 lbs on April 25. in the main event of a five-bout card. In the co-main, Farmington's Victor Barela (9-1-1) will seek a comeback at 122 lbs., against an opponent TBA, in an eight rounder. Also at eight rounds, welterweight Lucas "The Ghost" Galle (5-3), of Rio Rancho, N.M., will take on Colorado Springs' Abel Perry (9-3). At 180 lbs., standout amateur Victor Filerio (1-0), of Bloomfield, takes on TBA; and, in the opening bout, Albuquerque's Vincent Mirabal (1-0) is up against Abraham Alvarez-Ozuna (0-1), of Mexico. The Las Cruces PAL is hosting a USA Boxing-sanctioned card on Saturday, April 25. The event, billed as "Saturday Night Fights," will take place at the Club Fusion Teen Club at 101 E. Union Ave. Las Cruces, NM. Fights start at 6 p.m., doors open at 5 p.m. Weigh-ins take place at 8 a.m. to 11 and physicals at 4. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 or students. In order to jump start a somewhat dormant local scene, Richard Mirabal & Isleta Boxing are teaming up to begin the first of a series of all-local professional and amateur cards beginning May 16. Not only will the card feature a full, five-bout pro lineup, but 22 amateur bouts are also planned. In addition, the card will be OPEN TO ALL AGES, with two amateur title belts and a scholarship up for grabs.

In the pro portion of the card: In the main event, six rounds, Vicent "Li'l Man' Mirabal (1-0) will take on Albuquerque warrior Daniel "Latin Heat" Gonzales (2-4). In the semi-main, Rio Rancho's Lucas "The Ghost" Galle (5-3) takes on TBA. Also scheduled to fight: female Thaddine Johnson Swift Eagle (3-0), Freddie Sisneros (1-0, Randy Arrellin (0-1), and Carlos Sanchez (2-0). Stay tuned as the fights are made!

In the amateur portion of the card, Team Mirabal and Isleta Boxing will seek to raise funds to provide a scholarship for a young boxer that could be used for tuition/textbooks/supplies for the college of their choice. "If everything goes well, we'll continue to have pro-ams on a regular basis," says promoter Richard Mirabal. "We want to provide more opportunities for our fighters, get them recognized and provide a stepping stone for for these young boxers to excel. As a state, they seem to have been left behind."

The first-ever, full-rules, all-pro Muay Thai for New Mexico is set for May 9 in Albuquerque. Billed as "Battle of the Bad Girls" and promoted by the Diamond Kickboxing Gym, the card, sanctioned by IKF, will headline an all-female card. In the main event, No. 5 ranked Jessica "Diamond" Sanchez (Diamond Gym) takes on Keri Taylor (Fairtex Gym), who is ranked No. 6. In the co-main, Albuquerque's Angelica Chavez will take on Team Toro's Vanessa Ailing. In the third co-feature, Jennifer Han of El Paso's Han's Martial Arts takes on Team Prathet's Kayla Outdhone. On the undercard: "Lightning" Ben Acosta, of Diamond Gym vs. Francisco Marin of Chavez Dojo; Jason "DK" Quintana of Diamond Gym fights TJ Trujillo of Chavez Karate; Steven Baca, of Diamond Gym, makes his pro debut vs. Rafael Frietas, of Chavez, who will make a Muay Thai pro debut.
